Men’s Health: Living a longer + healthier life

June is Men’s Health Month and the perfect time to share helpful reminders and tips to help keep the men in your life healthy. Did you know that heart disease and cancer are the top two leading causes of death in men in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention? Below are the top ten habits to help reduce the risk:

  1. Don’t smoke. If you do, quit sooner rather than later and make a big difference.
  2. Low salt + low fat diet. Eat foods that are low in salt and saturated fat.
  3. Eat fruit + vegetables. Aim for three servings of each per day.
  4. Get moving. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day, most days of the week.
  5. Manage + reduce stress. Read a book, take a walk, or meditate to help reduce stress.
  6. Maintain a healthy weight. Eating healthy and exercising are key.
  7. Control other health conditions. Blood pressure and cholesterol have a big impact on your overall health.
  8. Get good sleep. Aim for at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night.
  9. Cut back on alcohol. Drink in moderation, if you drink at all.
  10. Get your annual checkup. A regular annual preventive checkup can catch small health issues before they become bigger. Your cost for preventive services is covered under your plan at 100%, if you see a provider in your network.

Share these healthy habits with your loved ones to live longer, healthier lives. And remind them to get their
annual preventive care checkup. It’s never too late to start a healthy habit. Get started today!
